When you travel to the Mexico Caribbean – places like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and other parts of the Riviera Maya – you must visit the beautiful Caribbean beaches. The beaches in Cancun and the Riviera Maya are simply unrivaled in Mexico because of the clear, bright, turquoise-blue water of the Caribbean Sea and the soft, cool, powdery white sand beaches.
Caribbean White Sand Beaches
The sand on most beaches burns your feet, but in the Mexico Caribbean, the white sand is gentle on your feet. It’s soft and cool because it’s not the same as most sand. Instead of silica, the white sand of Mexico Caribbean beaches consists of eroded limestone and tiny pieces of coral, shells, mollusks, and sedimentary rocks. The sand’s off-white color reflects the sun’s rays too.
Water Sports and Beach Activities
Depending on which water sports or beach activities you choose, there’s a perfect Mexico Caribbean beach for you! Some of the Cancun and Riviera Maya beaches have moderate surf and are more suited for sailing, jet skiing, and water skiing, whereas other beaches have calmer surf and are better suited for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Beaches with strong surf are best suited for sunbathing, relaxing, and walking.
Mexico Caribbean Beach Options
There are so many beautiful Caribbean beaches in Cancun and the Riviera Maya that you’ll have no shortage of choices. Since all of the beaches in Mexico are publicly owned, you can walk or swim at any one of them, even the resort beaches, although some are more difficult to access. Other beaches are designed for public access and are easier to find.
Here are some favorite beach suggestions, although there are many other Caribbean beaches in Cancun and the Riviera Maya to visit. If you prefer, check with your hotels’ concierge or local activities’ coordinator for more options.
